The Jackson Purchase Chapter of KAPS will be hosting an in-person fall seminar taught by Jonathan Payne, PLS (Bio) and Matthew Clark, PLS (Bio) on December 10th, 2021 at the Kentucky Dam Village Inn.
8:00-12:00 Survey Map Design, Presented by Jonathan Payne, PLS
This 4-hour course will cover overall map design concepts along with the specific layout of map elements. Discussion will be based around the aesthetics of the map and use of design principles to develop clarity and balance to a map in order to provide the map user with confidence in the end product.

1:00-3:00 Preparing Survey Descriptions, Presented by Matthew Clark, PLS
This 2-hour course will review the components of property descriptions and best practices to develop a clear and unambiguous description of surveyed property. Examples of record descriptions will be provided for review. Discussion of terminology will address potential issues of clarity when preparing a description.
3:00-5:00 Job Tracking with Google My Maps and Google Earth, Presented by Jonathan Payne, PLS
This is a 2-hour introductory course into how to create points, lines, and polygons in Google Maps or Google Earth and associate links or images with these placeholders. KML/KMZ files will be discussed; including general layout/terminology and how to export these file types from commonly used drafting programs. In addition, a practical demonstration of how to access the data from a smartphone, while in the field, will be presented.
